Dr. Paul H. Ray received a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan and a B.A. in Anthropology from Yale University. He was Associate Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, Chief of Policy Research on Energy Conservation and Solar in the Canadian Government, and Vice President of American LIVES, Inc.
Dr. Ray is widely known for his groundbreaking research into the cultural phenomenon of what he calls the “cultural creatives.” This research began in 1986 and continues. He is the co-author of The Cultural Creatives, a book which summarizes his original research. His current research includes surveys on developments beyond left and right in politics, which he terms "The New Political Compass." Another current research project involves the design of a wisdom civilization, “The Practical Wisdom Paradigm,” and “The Emerging Wisdom Culture.” He works with NGOs, with new political groups and governments, and with green and socially responsible businesses.
